Best Time to Visit

Sacred season for pilgrimage
Sacred Seasons

When to Plan Your Visit

October to March is the most pleasant season for pilgrimage, with cool, dry weather ideal for the climb up Chandranath Hill and extended time within the sanctum.

Navratri (Sept–Oct) and Durga Puja are the most spiritually charged times to visit — the sanctum vibrates with devotional energy and elaborate ritual observance during these festivals.

Maha Shivaratri (Feb–Mar) is significant for the Bhairav Nimish shrine, and the surrounding Shaiva celebrations transform the entire Sitakunda region.

Avoid the monsoon months (June–August) if possible, as heavy rainfall can affect both travel and the climb to the upper sanctums.

Pilgrim Conduct

Etiquette & Dress Code

The sanctum is a place of profound reverence. We invite all pilgrims to observe these gentle codes of conduct.

·1·

Respectful Attire

Modest, traditional clothing is appreciated. Sarees, salwar-kameez, dhoti-kurta, or other respectful covering of shoulders and knees is recommended within the sanctum.

·2·

Footwear

Footwear is removed before entering the inner sanctum. Designated facilities are available at the temple entrance for safekeeping.

·3·

Silent Reverence

Please maintain a quiet, contemplative demeanour within the sanctum. Mobile phones should be silenced; flash photography inside the inner sanctum is discouraged.

·4·

Offerings

Traditional offerings — flowers, sweets, vermillion, and coconut — are welcomed. Modest, sattvic offerings made with devotion are most cherished.

·5·

Photography

Photography of the temple exterior and surrounding landscape is permitted. Inner sanctum photography is restricted out of respect for sanctity.

·6·

Pradakshina

Circumambulate the sanctum clockwise, in keeping with the ancient tradition that aligns the pilgrim's body with the cosmic axis of the Devi.
